The Truth About Modern Wellness No One Is Talking About (and Why It Matters More Than Ever)

My name is Melissa, I’m in my mid-30s, and I’m only just learning the truly valuable lessons of real wellness. It’s 2026 and everything is moving fast. Advice, opinions and examples are everywhere, and the truth is, it’s completely overwhelming.

It’s taken me 12 months of research, trying methods I found online, speaking with nutritionists, and sitting through plenty of failed moments. Things that simply were not a good fit for my lifestyle.

Let’s talk about the people who put their wellness first, above all else. These people are living legends, in my opinion. Let’s be honest, there are all sorts of people in the world. I’m the kind who crossed the line with partying, drinking, eating terribly, and not respecting the consequences of treating your body, mind and soul with care.

It’s for this reason that I’ve started taking wellness more seriously than most. The thing is, wellness is such a broad subject. It means different things to different people. So let’s break it down.

This is my breakdown of 3 steps I took to change my life for the better. It started with reading inspiring material online and choosing what actually needed to change, and what outcomes I truly wanted. Some of those changes never even crossed my mind at the beginning, but those unexpected shifts are what made this journey so special.

Body
Your physical body is the starting point when it comes to wellness. Above all other areas, it is incredibly hard to feel clear, calm, and grounded in your mind and soul if your body is constantly under stress from poor nutrition, medications, alcohol, cigarettes, hormone imbalances, or lingering brain fog. When you nourish your body with real, wholesome food, move it with intention, and treat it with respect, everything else starts to shift. You gain more energy, better focus, more stable moods, and a deeper sense of vitality. Getting the nutrients your body truly needs is not about perfection. It is about giving yourself the chance to feel strong, clear, and as close to 100 per cent as possible, so you can show up fully in your life.

Mind
Your attitude and your ability to put yourself first are truly important, and they are necessary. Being kind to yourself is not always easy, and motivation does not come without effort. It takes work. Saying no can be hard, but learning to be at peace with doing what is best for you is one of the most immediately beneficial things you can do for your mind. When you are at peace, in a happy place, and doing things that help you feel relaxed and comfortable, you will be amazed at how much more present and engaging you become around others. Your anger feels lighter, you are calmer, and you are far more open to new experiences than when you are stressed and overwhelmed. Creating a list of things that support the way you want to live, from morning to night, is a powerful step towards building a healthier, more balanced mind.

What No One Talks About
I could easily say “soul”. That is what everyone would suggest. Body, mind and soul. But here is the thing, my soul feels a hell of a lot better simply by following through with the steps of “mind”. The step that helped me the most was decluttering. It is 2026, and there is simply too much going on. Everything feels cluttered and unclear. Nothing gets done to the best of our ability because there is too much in the way. The most incredible and unexpected step I took to bring wellness into my life was cutting things out and choosing to live by the phrase “less is more”. It is so true. I could give a long list of things that helped, but I want to share the most meaningful ones that made a significant mental difference for me.

1. Social media and time accountability
I deleted apps and websites that were not necessary for daily use. By keeping just a few options, a few news sources, and a few shopping sites, I cut out the overwhelming fog of too much information taking up too many hours of my day. The positive outcome of this was clarity. More space in my mind, more time in my day, and far less mental noise.

2. Simplifying the way I eat
I changed everything about my eating. I went down the deep rabbit hole of counting calories and following endless recommendations about “healthy” foods. It honestly makes me cringe even seeing the word protein now. There was so much information and so many hours lost to bad recipes and food I did not even enjoy. Once again, it came back to decluttering. I decided to clean out my fridge and cupboards and stick to the same meals over and over again. This was life-changing. No overthinking groceries, no spending hours scrolling social media for new healthy snacks. I chose foods I actually liked and stuck to the healthiest versions of them. I successfully lost weight and, more importantly, I lifted the constant stress of overthinking food.

3. Finances
This is the number one daily stress for most people. Once again, I applied my declutter mindset and leaned into “less is more”. That phrase works hand in hand with spending, especially when it comes to overbuying or spending money you do not really have. I will be honest, the advice I am about to share might sound small or even irrelevant, but I had one of those real epiphany moments and decided to change how I looked at money. As I walked through my home, I noticed I had multiple clothes, shoes, perfumes, beauty products, TVs, and pieces of gym equipment everywhere. Then I admitted something to myself. I only use one of each. I wear the same jumper, the same pants, the same shoes, the same perfume, watch the same main TV, and use the same treadmill. The ones I used were all high quality, my favourite brands, and the best I owned. The rest was a complete waste of money and space. This is the real effect of “less is more”. High quality products, whether it is clothes, fitness, food, supplements, or beauty, bought with intention. Just buy one. Save your money for more important things in life. Purchase the best, make it last, and use it properly.

So why is wellness luxe? True luxury is taking the time and setting the intention to prioritize your wellness. I feel luxurious when I look at my body now, and my mindset feels clear and motivated. I stopped buying multiple versions of the same things and chose the best products, the ones that actually made me happy and proud to own. Yes, I bought that crazy expensive Tom Ford perfume and stopped jumping between different brands and endless options. And you guessed it, my confidence skyrocketed. I walked into rooms smelling damn good and feeling even better. That over priced product actually saved me money, I stopped buying the ones I knew I wouldn’t wear!
